Wilmslow West and Chorley
police newsletter September to October 2019
James Morris
Police Community Support Officer
Wilmslow West and Chorley ward

I am pleased to see that the process has begun for parking restrictions to be placed on Alderley Road in Wilmslow. A notice detailing the proposed outcomes for a Traffic Regulation Order (namely prohibition of waiting for all times on all days) has been created and a consultation is currently taking place until 10th October 2019. Further restrictions are proposed for Bedells Lane and part of Knutsford Road, full details of which can be found here: https://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/highways_and_roads/highways-licences-and-permits/traffic-regulation-orders/proposals/notice-of-proposal-alderley-road-wilmslow-prohibition-of-waiting.aspx

With the new academic year in progress, I will be back visiting pupils in schools and nurseries across the ward to offer help and support to children – an essential part of building trust in the police from an early age. Patrols relating to parking at schools are also in full swing, predominately focussing on making sure that the behaviour of parents is up to the expected standards of the community.

Weather related incidents often create the need for police and other emergency services to offer assistance to members of the community, particularly drivers. Wet weather has affected the area during a large portion of the summer and as autumn blows its way into view it can be predicted that adverse conditions (especially rain) will grace us with our presence once more.

As such, below are some tips for ensuring yourself and others are kept safe while driving in the rain:

  • Keep a good distance between yourself and the vehicle in front.
  • Slow down to avoid skidding – road surfaces can be slippery when wet.
  • Use headlights if appropriate.
  • Make sure your windows are clear by using windscreen wipers and demisters.
  • Be wary of floods and do not attempt to drive through water that is too deep for your vehicle.
  • Ensure that there is plenty of time to complete your journey.
  • Watch out for pedestrians.
