Rural Policing Update

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello, It’s has been some time since I have updated you in regards to recent investigations and matters of interest from rural policing in Macclesfield, so thought to send an update.

During the spring months of 2019 we saw a sharp rise in theft of stone, of varying types and sizes from rural properties in Macclesfield. A large quantity was recovered due to diligent residents and it is great news to say we were able to reunite a vast quantity of the stone with five properties at varying locations throughout Macclesfield. Thanks to media appeals this was made possible and residents talking with one another. An offender is being dealt currently through the judicial system.

From these occurrences, certain points were raised to help us prevent this reoccurring. Consider re-bedding slabs, as those stolen were loose or easily removable, or anchor down with metal ties. Mark stone discreetly, so that its identifiable when recovered. Should you have recently carried out landscaping work, consider photographing, so that we can reunite recovered stone.

Quad bike thefts, was also on the rise but I’m glad to say this has ceased recently, due to identifying offender(s) from a nearby county. CCTV and diligent farms/ residents have helped in combatting this issue. Great efforts have been made to secure equipment and plant machinery and I can only keep on encouraging this. As ever tempting it may be to leave your Quad unchained/ unsecured at night, please resist. Those that have prevented offender(s) stealing Quads, have secured their equipment with heavy duty chain links to ground hooks, and made access near on impossible.

We have recruited and have been aided by our off road covert police motorcyclists to tackle the summer rise in anti-social use of off-road bikes in rural/ agricultural land. Seizure(s) for no insurance and patrols of highlighted unauthorised lanes have been made. We have seen an increase in responsible riding and will continue to take this issue on.

These are just three topics of an extensive array of matters we have been dealing with and I encourage you all to continue to report activity that concerns you. Many Thanks and have a great Summer 2019.
