Fires - Reducing risks and temptations

Alert message sent 17/09/2018 16:31:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello again readers,
Cheshire Fire and ourselves have already seen an increase in the number of incidents of fires where items taken from outside homes have been used.  The biggest issue in this respect for both of us is the taking of wheelie bins.  Beside giving an access route into and out of gardens and windows these items are almost invariable easy targets for people taking them to set on fire.  We know, sadly from experience,  that the number of incidents rise as we approach Bonfire night and Halloween and we are again asking for your help.  Please keep wheelie bins and other items which could be taken easily out of sight when not in use. Please encourage people you know, such as family and friends, to do the same.

If you are the parent of children please explain to them the danger aspect of such activity and how plastics can be lethal causing toxic smoke, heat and scald burns to name a few.  The consequences of wheelie bins on fire near homes is itself a potential for loss of life.

If you know anything about any persons setting wheelie bins or other persons property alight please let us know in confidence or call Crimestoppers free on 0800 555 111
